Don't Fall for It
Dec 30, 2024In two days, it’s January 1st. Creating New Year’s resolutions around health is common. And, everywhere you look there is an ad promising an "easy fix" to help.
The thing is, if it was easy, everyone would do it.
There is no such thing as an "easy fix". There is no magic pill, drink, or wrap. It takes a system. It might not be easy, but it can be simple.
The first step is let go of completely overhauling your life. When you drastically change everything, it lasts about 5 days. Then you give up. It’s just too much.
Instead, pick one thing you can commit to this week. Set yourself up for success by choosing something you know you can do. Here are a few ideas:
- Walk 1000 more steps a day than you usually do
- Drink a glass of water before every meal
- Put your fork down between bits
- Cut carbs at dinner
- Stop eating after dinner
- Have a serving of vegetables at every meal
- Eat your vegetables first, then your protein, then carbs
- Workout one more day each week
- Read before bed
- Turn the TV off at dinner
- Sit down when you eat
- Try a new fruit or vegetable or a new healthy recipe every week.
You can come up with your own ideas as well.
When we commit to something doable, we make progress. Once you feel like you "have" the new habit, choose another small thing to add to your healthy lifestyle. Little steps add up BIG over time.
I have faith in you. You can do this!
